Exercise 1:
خا لد: هذا محل الملابس . تعالى لنشتري الهدية من هنا .
Khalid:Haazaa Mahal al-malaabis. That's linashtharee al-hadiyyah min hunaa.
Khalid: This is a clothes store. Come we shall buy a gift from here.
ضحى : هذا مدخل المحل. هيا ندخل .
Duhaa: Haazaa madhkhul al-mahal. Haiyan nadkhulu.
Duhaa: This is the entrance of the shop. Let's go in.
Khalid: Laa thadkhulee al-aan. Haiyan nushaahidu Al-maaroodaath fee naafizathul-ardh awwalan, summa nadkhulu baáda zaalik.
Khalid: Do not enter now. Let's see the exhibits from the display window first, then we will go in.
ضحى : ما الهدية التي تناسب أمّي ؟
Duhaa: Maa al-hadiyyah al-lathee thunaasibu Ummee?
Duhaa: What will be a suitable gift for (my) mother?
Khalid: Maa rayuka fee Haazaa al-miáthaf.
Khalid: What is your opinion about this coat?
Duhaa: Haazaa miathif shithaawee, wa nahnu al-aan fee faslis-saif.
Duhaa: This coat is for winter, and we are now in summer season.
خا لد: هل يناسبها هذا الفستان؟
Khaalid: Hal yunaasibuhaa haazal-fusthaan?
Khaalid: Is this frock suitable for her?
Duhaa: Laa.Hiya laa thalbisu al-fasaatheen al-qaseerah.
Duhaa: No. She does not wear short Frocks.
خالد: هذه بلوزة جميلة. أمي تفضل اللون الأزرق.
Khaalid: Haazihi bloozah jameelah.Ummi thafaddalu al-lawn al-azraq.
Khaalid: This blouse is beautiful. Mother likes blue colour.
Duhaa: Ummee indahaa bloozaath Kaseerah.
Duhaa: Mother has many jackets.
انظر إلى هذا الخاتم.
Look at this ring.
Unzur ilaa haazal-khaatham.
هو من الذهب.
Huwa minaz-zahab.
It's of gold.
هل ثمنه مناسب؟
Hal samauhu munaasib ?
Is it's price suitable?
Khaalid: Haazaa al-khaatam min al-almaas.
Khaalid: This is a diamond ring.
اقرئي البطاقة، ثمنه غال جدا
Iqraee al-bathaaqah, samanuhu ghaalin Jiddan.
Read the (price) tag, it's expensive.
Duhaa: Haazihee saa-áah jameelah.
Duhaa: This is a beautiful watch.
أمي تحتاج الآن إلى ساعة، بعد أن فقدت ساعتها.
Ummee thahthaaju al-aan ilaa saa-áah, baáda an faqadath saa-áthahaa.
Mom now needs a watch as she has lost her watch.
خالد: حقا هذه هدية مناسبة، وثمنها مناسب.
Khaalid: Haqqan haazihee hadiyyah munaasibah, wa samanuhu munaasib.
Khaalid: Truly this is the suitable gift, and it's price is suitable.
هيا ندخل لنشتريها.
Haiyan nadkhulu li-nashtharee-haa.
Come, let us enter to buy it.
ضحى: وماذا نشتري لأبي .
Duhaa: Wa maazaa nashtharee li-abee.
Duhaa: And what can we buy for Dad.
خالد: انظري إلى تلك الحقيبة السوداء.
Khaalid: Unzuree ilaa thilka al-haqeebah as-sawdaa.
Khaalid: Look at this black bag.
ضحى: أبي لا يحتاج إلى حقيبة،
فقد اشترى واحدة في الأسبوع الماضي .
Abee laa yahthaaju ilaa Haqeebah,
faqad ishtharee waahidah fil usboó al-maadee.
Duhaa: Dad does not need a bag, as he bought a bag last week.
خالد: إذن نشتري له هذا القلم.
Khaalid: Izan nashtharee lahoo Haazal-qalam.
Khaalid: Then we can buy this pen.
ضحى: أعتقد أن هذه هدية مناسبة.
أبي يستعمل الأقلام كثيرا.
Duhaa: Aáthaqidu Anna Haazihee hadiyyah munaasibah.
Duhaa: Aáthaqidu Anna Haazihee hadiyyah munaasibah.
Abi yasthamiu al-aqlaam kaseerah.
Duhaa: I feel this is a suitable gift.
Dad uses a lot of pens.
خالد: ساخذ القلم الأحمر.
Khaalid: Sa-akhazu al-Qalam al-ahmaru.
Khaalid: Sa-akhazu al-Qalam al-ahmaru.
Khaalid: (I) Shall take the red pen.
هو أجمل من الأصفر.
Huwa ajmalu minal-asfar.
It is better than the yellow.
ضحى: هيا نذهب إلى المحاسب ، لندفع الحساب.
Duhaa: Haiyan nazhabu ilal-muhaasib,linadfaú al-hisaab.
Duhaa: Come, let us go to the cashier, to pay the amount.
المحاسب : الساعة بعشرين دينارا. القلم بخمسة دنانير .
Al-muhaasib: As-saa-áh bi-ishreen deenaaran. Al-qalamu bi-khamsathi deenaneer.
The Cashier: The watch is for twenty dinars. The pen is for five dinars.
المجموع خمسة وعشرون دينارا.
Al-majmooá Khamsah
Wa ish-roona deenaaran.
The total is twenty five dinaars.
ضحى: هذه حافظة النقود.
Duhaa: Haazihee haafizathun-nuqood.
Duhaa: Here is the wallet.
ادفع الحساب بسرعة ،
حتى نلحق بالحافلة
Idfaá al-hisaab bi-sur-ah, hath-thaa nalhaqu bil-haafilah.
Pay the amount quickly, so that we can catch the bus.
خالد: تفضل الحساب.
Thafaddalu al-hisaab.
Please take the amount.
خمسة وعشرون دينارا.
Khamsah wa ishroona deenaaran.
Twenty five dinaars.
المحاسب : هذه هي الفاتورة . شكرا.
Al-Muhaasib: Haazihee hiya al-faathoorah.
Shukran
The Cashier: This is the receipt. Thanks.
خالد:عفوا.
Khaalid: Afwan.
Khaalid: Welcome.
هو أجمل من الأصفر.
