Exercise 1 Read the text:

Translation of the Arabic text only:

Hussan was working as a wood cutter, he climbed the mountain early in the morning, to collect dry branches of trees, then he tied them together with a rope, and he carried it on his back to the city, to sell it for a few dirhams, and spend the money on himself.

In winter people need a lot of firewood to use for cooking and heating.

In summer people don't  need much of firewood.

One day Hussan was sitting sad

and in front of him was the firewood that he brought from the mountain.

  One of his friends saw him,then he approached him and asked him, "Why are you sad, O' Hussan?"

He said: I'm sitting here since morning, but didn't sell even a bit of firewood.

The man said: This is the summer.

People do not buy much wood

in it and you know that.

Hussan said: Yes, I know, but where will I get Money for food and clothes?

The Man said:You are a strong young man.Look for some other work.

Hussan said:I do not know any other work.

The man said:Look for work everywhere.

That evening Hassan did not sleep. He was thinking a lot.

He finally decided to move to another place, to search for a living.

أيّ قلمٍ تستعمل من هذه الأقلام ؟

Read as: Ai-i qalamin Tastamilu min haazihil Aqlaam?

Meaning: Which pen will you use from among these pens?

2) قصة / تقرأ

Read as: Qissah / Taqraa

Meaning: Story / You will read.

Answer

أيِّ قصّةٍ تقرأ من هذه القصص ؟

Read as: Ai-i qissatin taqrau min hazihil qisas?

Meaning: Which story will you read from these stories?

3) صورة / تحبُّ

Read as: Surah / Tuhibbu

Meaning: Picture / You Like

Answer

أيِّ صورةٍ تحبُّ من هذه الصور ؟

Read as: Ai-i sooratin Tuhibbu min hazihil Suwar?

Meaning: Which picture do you like from these pictures?

Question.

4) صندوق / تحمل

Read as: Sandooq / Tahmilu

Meaning: Box / You will carry?

Answer

أيِّ صندوقٍ تحمل من هذه الصناديق ؟

Read as: Ai-i sandooqin Tahmilu min hazihil sanadeeq?

Meaning: Which box you will carry from these boxes?

Question.

5) نظًارة  /  تأخذ   

Read as: Nazzarah  / Takhuzu

Meaning: Glasses / You will take


Answer


أيِّ نظّارةٍ   تأخذ   من هذه النظّارات  ؟ 

Read as: Ai-i nazzarathin takhzoo min hazihi nazzaraath?

Meaning: Which glass(Spectacles) will you take from these glasses?

6) كتاب    /  تفضّل  


Read as: Kitaab   / Tafaddalu


Meaning: Book / You prefer


Answer

  أيِّ  كتابٍ تفضّل   من هذه الكتب   ؟ 

Read as: Ai-i kitaabin tafaddalu min hazihi kutub?

Meaning: Which book do you prefer from these books?

Question.

7) درّاجة / تركب 

Read as: Darrajah  / Tarkabu

Meaning: Cycle / You will ride


Answer

أيِّ درّاجة  تركب   من  هذه   الدرّاجات   ؟

Read as: Ai-i darrajathin tarkabu min hazihi darrajaath?

Meaning: Which cycle will you ride from among these cycles?

Question.

8) هديّة / تقدّم  

Read as: Hadiyyah / Tuqaddimu

Meaning: Gift / present


Answer


أيِّ هديّة    تقدّم   من هذه الهدايا؟

Read as: Ai-i hadiyyatin tuqaddimu min hazihil hadaayaa?

Meaning: Which gift will you present from among these gifts?

Exercise 7

Change as in the example

Question.

أعرف جمع الحطب فقط.

Read as: aerif jame alhatab faqt.

Meaning: I know the collection of firewood only.

Answer

أنا لا أعرف الا جمع الحطب

Read as: ana la 'aerif 'iilaa jame alhatab.

Meaning: I do not know except the collection of firewood.

Question 1:

مارس رياضة القفز فقط.  

Read as: maris riadat alqafz faqt.

Meaning: I Practice only the sport of jumping.

Answer

أنا لا مارس الا رياضة القفز.

Read as: ana la maris 'iilaa riadat alqafz.

Meaning: I do not practice except the sport of jumping.

Question 2:

أشرب عصيرالتفّاح فقط.

Read as: ashrab aseer al-tuffah faqt. Meaning: I Drink only apple juice.

Answer

أنا لا أشرب الا عصيرالتفّاح.

Read as: ana la ashrabu illaa aseer al-tuffah.

Meaning: I do not drink except apple juice.

Question 3

أستمع إلى نشرة الأخبار فقط.

Read as: astamiu iilaa nashrat al'akhbar faqt.

Meaning: I listen to the news bulletin only.

Answer

أنا لا أستمع إلا نشرة الأخبار.

Read as: ana la 'astamie 'iilaa nashrat al'akhbar.

Meaning: I only listen to the news bulletin.

Question 4:

أذهب بحافلة المدرسة فقط.   

Read as: adhhab bihafilat almadrasat faqt.

Meaning: I go by school bus only.

Answer

أنا لا أذهب إلا بحافلة المدرسة.

Read as: ana la 'adhhab 'iilaa bihafilat almudrasat.

Meaning: I only go by school bus.

Question 5:

أسافر في عطلة الصيف فقط.

Read as: asafir fi eutlat alsayf faqt.

Meaning: I travel on summer vacation only.

Answer

أنا لا أسافر إلا في عطلة الصيف.

Read as: ana la 'usafir 'illa fi utlat al-sayf.

Meaning: I only travel on a summer vacation.

Question 6:

أشارك في سباق الدّرّاجة فقط.

Read as: usharik fi sibaq al-drrajt faqt.

Meaning: I only participate in the bike race.

Answer

أنا لا أشارك إلا في سباق الدّرّاجات.

Read as: ana la 'usharik 'illa fi sibaq al-drrajat.

Meaning: I only participate in the cycling race.

Question 7:

أحبُّ قراءة القصص فقط.

Read as: ahbb qara'at al-qisas faqt.

Meaning: I like reading stories only.

Answer

أنا لا أحبّ قراءة إلا قصص.

Read as: ana la ahb qara'atan 'iilaa quss.

Meaning: I do not like reading only stories.

Question 8:

أزور صديقي في العطلة فقط.

Read as: azwr sadiqi fi aleutlat faqt.

Meaning: I visit my friend on holiday only.

Answer

أنا لا أزور صديقي إلا في العطلة.

Read as: ana la 'azuar sadiqi 'illa fi aleatlat.

Meaning: I do not visit my friend except on holiday.
