2 :Telephonic Conversation.
Exercise 1:Listen and Recall:
أمين و ندى في بيت خالهما.
Ameen Wa Nadaa fee baithi khaalihimaa.
Ameen and Nada are at their Uncle's House.
هما يتكلمان بالهاتف مع أمهما.
Humaa yathakallamaani bil haatifi maa' ummihimaa
Both of them are talking to their mother over the phone.
ندى : ماذا ستفعل يا أمين؟
Nadaa: Maazaa sathafalu yaa Ameen?
Nada: What are you going to do Ameen?
أمين : أريد أن أتكلم مع أمي في البيت.
Ameen: Ooreedu an athakallamu maa' ummi fil-baith.
Ameen: I want to speak with mother at home.
تعالي هنا، لتتكلمي معها أيضا.
Thaa'alee hunaa, li-tha-tha-kallamee maa'haa aidan.
Come here so you too can talk to her.
اجلسي على المقعد، بجانب الهاتف .
Ijlisee a'lal-maqad,bijaanibil-haatif.
Sit on the couch beside the phone.
الأم : السلام عليكم. من يتكلم؟
Al-ummu: As-salaamu alaikum. Man yathakallam?
Mother: Salam alaikum (Peace be upon you.) Who is speaking?
أمين : وعليكم السلام يا أمي - أنا أمين .
Ameen: Wa a'laikum as-salaam yaa ummee. Anaa Ameen.
Ameen: Wa alaikum salam (and peace be upon you too) mother, I am Ameen.
الأم : أهلا يا أمين . كيف أنت؟ وكيف أختك ندى؟
Al-ummu: Ahlan yaa Ameen.Kaifa antha? Wa kaifa ukhthuka Nadaa?
Mother: Welcome Ameen. How are you? And how is your sister Nada.
أمين : نحن بخير. قضينا هنا وقتا سعيدا.
Ameen: Nahnu Bi-khair. Qadainaa hunaa waqthan saeedan.
Ameen: We are fine. We are having a good time here.
الأم : متى وصلتما إلى هناك؟ لعل الرحلة كانت مريحةً؟
Al-ummu: Mataa wasalthum ilaa hunaaka?Laa'llar-rihlah kaanath mureehathan?
Mother: When did you reach there? I hope the journey was comfortable.
أمين : وصلنا في الصباح الباكر، في الساعة الخامسة ...
Ameen: Wasalnaa fis-sabaahil-baakir,fis-saathil khaamisah….
Ameen: We reached here early in the morning at 5:00 AM ...
استقبلنا خالي في المطار، وأخذنا بسيارته إلى البيت ، وهناك تناولنا فطورا خفيفا ، ثم ذهبنا إلى البحر، وقضينا وقتا جميلا على المركب .
Isthaqbalanaa khaalee fil mathaar, wa akhazanaa bis-sayyaaratihi ilal-baithi, wa hunaaka thanaawalnaa futhooran khafeefan, summa zahabnaa ilal-bahr, wa qadainaa waqthan jameelan alal-markab.
We were received by our uncle at the airport.He took us home by his car.We had a light breakfast and then we went to the sea.There we spent good time on the boat.
الأم : هل شاهدتما الشلالات؟ هي جميلة جدا وتستحق المشاهدة
Al-ummu: Hal shaa-had-thu-maa ash-shal-laa-laath?
Mother: Did you see the water falls? It's very beautiful, and it is worth visiting.
امين : نعم يا أمّي ذهبنا إليها بعد الغداء.
Ameen: Naa'm yaa ummee zahabnaa ilaihaa badal-ghadaa.
Ameen: Yes Mother. We visited it after lunch.
أحضر لنا خالي ملابس ثقيلة: معطفين للمطر، وحذاءين ضخمين ، وقبَّعتّين كبيرتين ،
Ahdara lanaa khaalee malaabis saqeelah: Mia'thafain lil-mathar, wa hizaa-ain dakhmathain kabeeratain,
Uncle brought us heavy clothes.Two rain coats, two boots, and two large caps.
لبسنا الملابس, وعندما نظرت إلى ندى، ضحكت كثيرا، ثم نظرت إلى وجهي في المرآة، فضحكت من صورتي .
Labisnaa al-malaabis, wa indamaa nazarthu ilaa Nadaa, dahikthu kaseeran, summa nazarthu ilaa wajhee fil-miraa-a'thi, fa dahikthu min soorathi.
We wore the clothes, and when I saw Nada I laughed a lot, but when I saw my face in the mirror I laughed more.
تأخذ ندى الهاتف من أمين وتتكلم مع أمها
Tha-khuzu Nadaa al-haatif min Ameen wa tha-tha-kallamu maa' ummihaa.
(Nada takes the phone form Ameen to talk to her mother)
ندى: المكان هنا جميل جدا يا أمي والجو معتدل. سنذهب غدا، ان شاء الله الى الغابة، لنشاهد الفراشات الجميلة، والأزهار الملونة، والقرود المضحكة.
Nadaa: Al-makaanu hunaa jameelun jiddan yaa ummee wal jawwu muthadil. Sa nazhabu ghadan inshaa Allah ilal-ghaabah, li-nushaahidu al-firaashaath al-jameelah, wal-azhaar al-mulawwanah, wal-qurood al-mudhikah.
Nada: The place here is very beautiful mother and the weather is very pleasant. Tomorrow we are going to go to the forest (insha Allah) God willing, to see beautiful butterflies, colourful flowers and funny monkeys.
الأم : أرجو أن تلتقطي بعض الصور.
Al-ummu: Arjoo an thal-thaq-thee baa'da as-suwar.
Mother:Please bring some pictures.
ندى : لم تكن معي آلة التصوير أمس. نسيتها في البيت. سآخذها معى غدا إلى الغابة.
Nadaa: Lam thakum ma-e-ya aalatha-th-thasweer ams. Naseethuhaa fil baith. Sa-aakhuzuhaa ma-e-ya ghadan ilaal-ghaabah.
Nada: I did not have a camera with me yesterday. I forgot it at home. I will take it Edith me tomorrow to the forest.
الأم : في الغابة حيوانات مفترسة، مثل: الأسد والنمر والدب. لا تتأخرا كثيرا في الغابة
Al-ummu: Fil ghaabah haiwaanaath muftharisah, misla: al-asad, wan-nimr, wad-dubb. Laa tha-tha-akh-kharu kaseeran fil-ghaabah.
Mother: There are wild animals in the forest.Like : the lion, the tiger and the bear.Don't stay till is late in the forest.
ندى : لا تخافي يا أمي. لن نتأخر هناك، وسيأخذ خالي بندقيته .
Nadaa: Laa thakaafee yaa ummi. Lan natha-akhara hunaaka, wa-sa-ya-khuzu khaali bun-du-qiyya-tha-hu.
Nada: Don't fear mother, we won't be late. Uncle will be taking his gun with him.
الأم : جميل . سأتكلم معكما غدا في المساء إن شاء الله. السلام عليكم
Al-ummu: Jameel.Sa-atha-kallamu maa'kum ghadan fil masaai inshaa Allah. As-salaamu alaikum.
Mother: Fine.I shall speak to both of you tomorrow evening, God willing (Insha Allah). Salam alaikum.
ندى : وعليكم السلام
Nadaa: Wa alaikum as-salaam.
Nada: Waalaikum salam.
